How do I inquire or apply?

Is my child required to take an entrance exam?
The screening includes Math and English, tailored to knowledge from previous grade levels. It is expected to take approximately 40–60 minutes. Parents are requested not to observe during the session. We will contact you by phone or email once the screening is finished for pick-up.
*No formal parent interview.
What is the school’s enrollment and class size?
Currently, more than 220 students are enrolled.
We aim to maintain our class sizes per grade level in order to offer students maximum opportunities for instruction and learning.
・Pre-K:
1 class per grade / Up to 16 students per class
・Kindergarten to Grade 5:
Up to 3 classes per grade / Up to 18 students per class
・Grade 6 and above:
1 class per grade / Up to 20 students per class
Do parents need to speak English?
Regarding parent/guardian communication, it is essential that at least one parent can communicate in English.
Do you have a wait pool?
Yes, we have a wait pool for certain grade levels.
Do you offer an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program?
Yes. Please refer to our English as Additional Language.
What curriculum and academic programs do you offer?
We offer the following international curricula tailored to each school level:
・Elementary School (Grades 1–5):
IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)
・Middle School (Grades 6 and above):
Implementing the IB MYP curriculum — Currently pursuing IB Candidate School status
Is a school lunch provided for students?
Lunch can either be brought from home or ordered from a catering service: Kiwi Kitchen delivered to the school. YIS does not have a cafeteria.
Do you have a school bus?
Yes, we offer a morning and afternoon bus service for students.

What are your school days and hours?
Our academic year runs from August to June. The school week is Monday to Friday, and vacations do not necessarily coincide with Japanese public holidays.
Classes: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
After School Activities (Optional): 3:45 PM – 4:45 PM
If a student arrives late or needs to leave early for any reason, they must sign in or sign out at the office.
Do you have school uniforms?
Wearing a uniform is a requirement at Yoyogi International School for all students. The uniform helps bring the students together as a member of the community and provides added safety measures. We ask that the students wear a school-sold top while the parent can purchase any store bought dark blue bottoms (pants, shorts or skirt) without print or logos. Alternatively, these bottoms can be purchased from our Uniform Order Website.
Our Yoyogi International School Uniform includes :
・Top
Hoodie, Polo shirt, PE shirt, and Cap with logo purchased from the school website.
・Bottom
Plain navy Shorts, Long pants, Culottes, and PE shorts purchased by the parent at any store or from the school website.
Is there a parents association at Yoyogi International School?
The Yoyogi Friends are a great way to get more involved in your child/children’s daily school life and to get to know other families in the community. They work alongside the school to support new families joining the school and fundraise for charities and new resources for the students.

How many different nationalities attend your school?
We have over 35 nationalities represented within our student body.
Do you have After School Activities?
We offer a diverse range of After School Activities(ASAs), including sports, arts, and academic clubs, designed to cater to various interests and age groups. We provide staff-led ASAs and clubs led by external providers in areas such as Pilates, Coding Club, Tae Kwon Do and Soccer.

Do you have a summer programme?
Yes, we have a Yoyogi IS Summer School. Our Summer School Program is a dynamic and enriching experience designed to inspire young minds in a global learning environment. Blending academic excellence with creativity and fun, the program offers students a meaningful and memorable summer.
What qualifications do your teachers possess?
We recruit worldwide in order to hire the most talented teachers in the world. Our teachers possess national or state(USA) teaching credentials.
