Our Curriculum
Yoyogi International School is an authorised IB World School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy: a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, relevant, high-quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
At Yoyogi International School, our curriculum integrates inquiry-based learning, incorporating the essential elements of the PYP, along with core philosophies and goals from leading educational curricula to prepare all children for education systems around the world.
The program is broken down into six major units of study per year.
We believe that students learn best when they take ownership of their own learning and are truly engaged in the process. Students are encouraged to ask questions and seek answers. When you visit our classrooms, you will see our students take ownership and demonstrate agency by wondering, questioning and exploring the limits of their curiosity, sharing and collaborating with each other, reflecting on their own work, and taking action inside the school as well as beyond the school community.
Towards the end of the Primary Years Programme, Grade 5 students participate in the PYP Exhibition, in which they present to the school community. The Exhibition is developed under the transdisciplinary theme of Sharing The Planet. Students engage in a collaborative, investigative, inquiry process that involves them identifying an issue and offering solutions to a real-life problem. The PYP Exhibition demonstrates what they have learned during their years in the PYP.
We educate the whole child and understand that developing positive attitudes toward learning is even more important than just acquiring skills and knowledge. Students work with teachers to develop the traits of the IB Learner Profile.
